about

Jenny's first EP "We've Been That Way Before" is a reflection on darkness and light - solitude and community. From beginning to end, it is about being seen and heard. It's about not facing everything alone and about making noise where we're too often silent.

Track Name: Before I Know What Hits Me
Chicago never seemed so cold on an August day
Daddy’s eyes were cloudy, he was far away
Telling me of Amy Jean before I had a say
“But child, don’t you worry. It’s over, anyway”

What if I climbed to the very top
Of these 100 stories of Mr. Hancock
What if I fell and no one cared to stop me

I’m no better than my father…
Come on wind, come take this life
I’m no better than my father
Come on wind, say otherwise
Before I know what hits me

Mother never seemed so sad like she was today
Daddy is on trial, Amy had her say
The backburner’s making room for me to come and stay
Get burned every morning, keep cool every day

What if I drove to my favorite spot
Right to the foot of Mr. Hancock
What if I climbed, and no one cared to stop me?

Oh, I’m no better than my father…
Come on wind, come take this life
‘cause I’m no better than my father
Come on wind, say otherwise
Before I know what hits me

The news was at the door
That was no surprise
This place has become more their home than mine
They came to say “so long”
To the one in the wrong
But the man of the hour is gone

I tell them he drove to my favorite spot
Right to the foot of Mr. Hancock
I tell them he left, and no one cared to stop him

That man, he was my father
Come on wind, come take this life
‘cause I’m no better than my father
but the wind says otherwise
‘Cause he never knew what hit him
Track Name: Battle of the Dark
Believing liars
Housing darkness
Leaving empty
Conversations never hurt this much
There’s a demon in the room

The shot is silent
The field erased in flames
The dagger wiped clean
Her wisdom gained from battle goes unseen
There’s a silent, screaming pain

Her battle rages on when no one sees
In never-ending dark, so none will see her bleed
The unknown battle of a bitter dark
Will scar a wounded heart

Wave and stumble
In this space without a sun
The light provided
Comes from reignited burns
There’s no rest for weary souls

Come in armor
Come prepared to lose the prize
Come in empty
Come with innocent and hope-filled eyes
Leave with hidden, worried lies

Oh, she will fight until she’s living in the light, until she’s living
Oh, she will fight until she’s living in the light, until she’s living
Oh, she will fight

Her battle rages on when no one sees
In never-ending dark, so none will see her bleed
Excuses of a heavy load
Are empty of the truth when no one knows
She swims in all the life she has known
She lives in all the lies, and dies there alone
The unknown battle of a bitter dark
Will scar a wounded heart
Track Name: Look Me in the Eyes
Look me in the eyes
Look me in the eyes
You are looking worn,
Hands are muddy,
Clothing torn,
But I see you

Look me in the eyes
Look me in the eyes
You are looking worn,
Hands are muddy,
Clothing torn,
But I see you
But I see you

Ohhh

Sing
Stand up, and cling
To the rock and let me bring
a song upon your mouth
I can see you now

Stand
Open up your hands
Feel the wind, the waves, the sand
upon your broken back
I can see you now

Ohhh

Look me in the eyes
Look me in the eyes
You are looking worn,
Hands are muddy,
Clothing torn,
But I see you
But I see you
But I see you
Track Name: Silence (Stomp)
Over my head
You found me
Over my head
We fell
Be wary not to sleep too long
Forever’s never felt so wrong to me
Bundle up in all your clothes
‘Cause winter’s never been so cold
And the deadly space between our lives
Was never quite as painful as these silent cries

Come, ask favors in your home
Come, rest, knock upon your door
Fear of failure hurts much more than failing
Friend, we’ve been that way before
And quiet nights are worse than raging storms

Over my head
You found me
Over my head
We fell
Be wary not to sleep too long
Forever’s never felt so wrong to me
Bundle up in all your clothes
‘Cause winter’s never been so cold
And the deadly space between our lives
Was never quite as painful as these silent cries

You still see my ghost where
Space comes falling in between
I still hear your pleas of
Misery

Come, ask favors in your home
Come, rest, knock upon your door
Fear of failure hurts much more than failing
Friend, we’ve been that way before
And quiet nights are worse than raging storms

Living never comes without a fight
Silence can be deadlier than life

And the deadly space between our lives
Was never quite as painful as these silent cries

And the deadly space between our lives
Was never quite as painful as these silent cries
